A sealed carbon fibre intake for the B48-powered Z4, replacing the restrictive factory airbox to give the turbo a steadier supply of cool, dense air.

The airbox takes air from two feeds, the original duct plus a second one from the wheel-arch, which lowers flow restriction and helps keep intake temperatures down under load. As it sits close to the exhaust manifold, the heat shield has a gold reflective backing to limit radiant heat and reduce heat soak.

Air passes through a one-piece carbon inlet tube with a 111mm (4.4") opening that tapers to the turbo inlet, replacing the ribbed stock tube with a smoother, larger bore. The dry cone filter has a larger surface area than the OEM filter and meets ISO filtration standards.

Included:

  • Dual-feed carbon fibre airbox
  • Dry cone high-flow filter
  • 111mm carbon inlet tube
  • CNC-machined temperature sensor mount and breather adapter
  • Gold-backed heat shield
  • Laser-cut stainless steel brackets
  • Silicone coupler with OEM-spec clamps

All carbon parts are made from 100% pre-preg carbon fibre.

Fits: BMW G29 Z4 20i and 30i (B48 engine)

Built to Be Seen and Heard

A roadster is a car you experience with your senses, so the parts you add to it should do more than show up on a dyno sheet. This carbon B48 intake for the G29 Z4 replaces the muffled factory airbox with an open, free-flowing path that lets the little turbo four draw breath properly and makes itself heard when you ask for it. On a car built around the pleasure of driving with the roof down, that sharper response and clearer induction note are exactly the sort of change you notice every time you press on, not just on paper.

Why Carbon Earns Its Place

The material is not just for show, though it certainly looks the part. Carbon fibre is light and resists heat well, so the housing stays rigid and sheds weight compared with the bulky plastic airbox it replaces. It also tolerates the warmth of a busy engine bay without softening or warping. In a Z4 the bonnet comes up to admiring looks as often as for spanners, and a neatly woven carbon piece simply finishes the bay the way a proper upgrade should, every bit as much a part of the car's appeal as the badge on the boot.

Keeping the Charge Cool

Warm air is lazy air, which is where the design matters most. A well-made B48 cold air intake shields the filter from the heat radiating off the engine and feeds it from the cooler air at the front of the bay instead. Cooler, denser air is simply better for combustion, so the engine makes the most of what it is given rather than choking on its own heat. It is the difference between an intake that only sounds good and one that genuinely helps the engine do its work, which is the point of fitting it alongside other B48 intakes models.

Everything in the Box

Part of the appeal of a complete B48 induction kit is that nothing is left for you to chase down separately. A good one arrives with the whole job ready to go:

  • The carbon housing and intake pipe
  • A high-flow filter sized for the engine
  • The clamps, couplers, and hardware to mount it
  • Provision for the factory sensor to transfer across

Fitting is refreshingly simple, with the old airbox lifting out and the new kit dropping in on ordinary hand tools in well under an hour. There is nothing to cut or fabricate and nothing else to disturb, so it is a job most owners are happy to tackle themselves on a free afternoon.

Made for the Z4 Roadster

This kit is designed around the G29 car, so it fits the bay rather than being a generic part forced to suit. A proper Z4 B48 intake of this kind covers the 20i and 30i versions of the roadster, seating cleanly where the factory box sat with no cutting or fabrication required. Confirm your exact model and year before ordering, since small details vary even within the range, and it will go in as neatly as its finish suggests. As with any open intake, the gains are modest on an otherwise standard car and come fully into their own once a supporting tune is in place.

FAQ

Does carbon help keep intake temperatures lower?
Carbon insulates against engine-bay heat better than bare metal, which helps intake temperatures. A design that also shields the filter keeps charge air cooler.
Does it fit both the 20i and 30i Z4?
It is made for the G29 Z4 with the B48 in 20i and 30i forms. Confirm your exact variant so it matches your car.
Is the carbon intake lighter than the factory airbox?
Carbon is light, so the intake is usually lighter than the original airbox. The saving is small but adds to the appeal.
Is it a sealed carbon box or an open filter design?
Carbon intakes come as sealed boxes or open filters, which affects heat and sound. Check which style this is so you know what to expect.
How does the carbon finish hold up to heat and sun?
Quality carbon is made to handle engine-bay heat and resist fading. A good finish keeps it looking sharp over time.
Is a carbon intake worth it on the Z4 for looks and performance?
It adds an appealing engine-bay look with a modest breathing gain. Many fit it as much for presentation as for outright power.
