Les nouveaux moteurs de la série B (B38/218i, B48/20i, B58/40i) utilisent un refroidissement par eau de l’air de suralimentation, comme le S55. Un échangeur situé dans le collecteur d’admission refroidit l’air grâce à de l’eau, elle-même refroidie par un radiateur avant placé devant le radiateur principal du liquide de refroidissement.

Deux circuits :

  • Haute température : 80–120 °C (moteur)
  • Basse température : 10–60 °C (air de suralimentation)

Comme aucune amélioration du refroidisseur du collecteur n’est encore disponible, ce radiateur avant est la solution.

Keep the Intake Charge Genuinely Cold

Not every BMW cools its charge air with a front-mounted core. On the B48 and B58 engines in the F2x and F3x cars, the intercooler is water-cooled: a compact charge cooler on the intake sheds heat into a coolant loop, and that coolant is cooled in turn by a dedicated radiator at the front. Upgrading that radiator is one of the smartest cooling moves you can make. A larger chargecooler radiator gives the whole circuit more capacity, holding intake temperatures down when the standard system would otherwise heat-soak. It works directly with the B58 intercooler it feeds.

How the Water Circuit Works

It helps to understand the layout. Instead of pushing boost through a long front-mounted core, these engines run a small air-to-water intercooler right on the intake, which reacts quickly and keeps the pipework short. The heat it absorbs is carried away by coolant and released by a front radiator. That means the coolant loop, rather than the intercooler itself, is often what limits sustained cooling, and that is exactly what this part sets out to address.

Why the Stock One Heat-Soaks

The factory radiator is sized for standard use, not repeated hard pulls. On a tuned car, a track day, or a long hot climb, the coolant carries away more heat than the standard radiator can shed, so its temperature creeps upward. As the coolant warms, the intercooler can no longer cool the charge as well, and intake temperatures climb with it. A bigger, more efficient charge cooler radiator breaks that cycle, keeping the loop cooler so the intercooler stays effective when it matters.

The Gain on a Tuned or Tracked Car

This is where it earns its place. With more radiator capacity, the circuit resists heat-soak, so the engine holds consistent intake temperatures and, with them, consistent power run after run. A stock, gently driven car may rarely need it, but add boost, add heat, or drive hard, and an upgraded B58 radiator becomes one of the highest-value cooling parts on the car, precisely because it protects everything the tune relies on.

Fits the F2x and F3x Range
