Wagner EVO 2 Competition Intercooler for BMW 135i, 1 Series M Coupe, 335i(x) N54/N55 E-Series

A proper FBO (Full Bolt-On) setup consists not only of a high-flow downpipe, reinforced charge pipes, and a custom ECU calibration, but also of a larger intercooler.

Manufacturer Description

The Competition EVO 2 intercooler features a stepped core measuring 520 × 210 × 150 mm with a total core volume of 13,572 cm³. Compared to the factory intercooler, it provides an 85% larger frontal cooling area and 90% greater charge air volume.

The high-performance Competition core is manufactured using a premium Tube & Fin design with integrated internal turbulators.

Despite its large size, the complete intercooler weighs only 7.4 kg. The cast aluminum end tanks have been optimized using CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) flow analysis. The original quick-connect fittings have been eliminated, while the inlet and outlet diameters have been increased to 70 mm. For this reason, the kit includes two reinforced silicone hoses.

The EVO 2 intercooler kit was specifically developed to meet the demanding requirements of BMW N54 and N55 engines. The result is outstanding cooling performance with minimal pressure drop. In addition, every Wagner intercooler features a heat-conductive anti-corrosion coating, ensuring long-lasting durability, optimal cooling efficiency, and noticeable power gains.

The intercooler has been pressure-tested to 6 bar and is designed to withstand high boost pressures. All Wagner products undergo continuous quality control and are suitable for motorsport applications.

The kit is supplied ready for installation and replaces the original OEM intercooler. To ensure proper fitment across all listed vehicle models, minor modifications are required during installation.

Vehicles equipped with the M Sport Package also require minor modifications to the underbody panel.

Our Recommendation

The Wagner Competition Series uses high-quality Tube & Fin cores that provide very fast heat transfer. This allows the intercooler to cool down quickly after reaching operating temperature.

However, Tube & Fin cores also heat up faster than heavier Bar & Plate designs. As a result, vehicles running higher boost pressures can reach the ignition timing reduction threshold more quickly.

The greatest advantages of Wagner intercoolers are their exceptional build quality, excellent fitment, and near plug-and-play installation.

We recommend the EVO 2 series for Stage 1 and moderate Stage 2 performance upgrades, as well as for owners who want to keep their vehicle as close to stock as possible with minimal trimming of plastic components.

If you don't mind performing additional modifications and are comfortable with a heavier intercooler, our 7.5" Race Intercooler may be a better choice.
